How you do anything is how you do everything.

I love this quote so much. But sometimes I hate it, haha. Because it’s the truth! And the truth about ourselves can be hard and confronting, I think we all know that one. 😉 

It’s over a year ago now that I heard that quote for the first time – during a Rich Litvin Intensive – and it’s coming back to me every time since.

It really landed in me and I now use it as a powerful tool for myself and my clients. 

We all have build up patterns, habits and beliefs in ourselves and our lives. They are all useful if they are in line with who you want to be and where you want to go. But they’re not so useful if they are holding you back or block you. 

We as human have mostly several things which are holding us back, even if we think that’s not the case.

We all have blind spots! 

By becoming curious about your own actions and the way you look at things, you can pull out some of those blind spots in a very simple way. 

I’ll give you an example from one of my own insights around this:

I hate refueling my car and I almost always postpone that for as long as possible. But I used to wait much longer than I am doing nowadays. Whenever the ‘refuel sign’ went on, I used to estimate how far I still would come without having to refuel. That has almost gone wrong several times, believe me. And I didn’t like myself that much in those moments, haha. 

But how you do anything is how you do everything… So, I asked myself the question: where am I doing this elsewhere in my life? 

The answer I came up with was around ‘taking care of myself’. I’ve had so many times in my life that I kept on pushing through until I literally couldn’t do anything anymore instead of refueling and taking rest.

How I postponed refueling my car, is how I postponed taking care of my body and energy.

BOOM! Huge insight. 

Taking care of myself is my work in progress for a long time now. I’m getting better and better in it, but still with ups and downs. Every time when the refuel sign in my car goes on, it’s a reminder for me that I need to keep on taking care of myself. I don’t want to burn myself out and then start all over again.

To be honest… Yes, sometimes I still postpone refueling my car waaaaaaay too long. 

And then I’m like: ‘Sanne, seriously… Are you doing this again?!’ 

So, ask yourself this question regularly when you’re doing something or thinking something about a situation or yourself: 

Where else in my life am I doing this?
