Fear is everywhere. It’s in our mind, our lives, our choices, our beliefs… We live in a world of fear. And you know what? We create it ourselves…
We hold ourselves back because of fear. The more I think about that, the more stupid it sounds. But we still keep on doing it, including myself.
I wrote an article about how fear owned me for a big part of my life.
Now, let’s focus on fear and how it is holding us back. Because fear can show up and influence in a lot of different ways. I think it’s a very interesting topic where we can learn so much about for ourselves and for what we want to create.
One of the things to realize is that most of the time, fear lives in the future. It’s in the things we don’t know. The big unknown… We make stories in our head about what could happen, without knowing what exactly is going to happen. We make it up.
Are you afraid of your past? No, because you already know what your past looks like. Is it possible to be afraid that something from your past will happen again? Yes. But we don’t know if that actually is going to happen.
So again, fear is in the future and in the unknown.
Fear is in our heads. When we want to create something new, take a next step, do something different, break a pattern; fear comes up.
‘Can I really do this?’
‘Are you sure this is going to work?’
‘What if I fail?’
‘What would people think?’
‘Is this not too risky?’
Our brain wants to keep us safe and protect us. Which is a good thing of course, but not always very helpful when we want to change, grow and move forward.
It takes courage to feel the fear and take action anyway. Focus on being in the moment and taking one step at the time. Live in the land of now. Because now is where you can take action. Don’t overthink the future or the outcome.
Here’s a ‘funny fact’. – It’s not actually funny but it is pretty crazy if you ask me. – We sometimes can get so afraid of knowing that the fear will come, that we want to walk away from everything that comes close to that feeling. It’s fear for the fear.
So, I encourage you to take a look at your own fears and decide what it is that you want to do with it. Do you let fear hold you back from what you want? Or not.
You see, it’s all a decision. It’s a choice. How powerful is that! 😉
And you know what. It’s okay to feel fear. We are all human and we all create stories in our minds… Whether they are true or not.
What is one fear you know that is holding you back?
